For a long time, the multi-storey car park at the station was growing „invisibly“ - on drawing desks and in the foundation ditch. Now the multi million project, which will provide 407 new parking spaces, is growing visibly. The huge steel framework will probably be finished by the end of June, explained Jürgen Schildhorn, manager of the builder-owner Canvas Bau- und Objektmanagement GmbH. The car park, consisting of eleven split levels, got through the most difficult building phases and Schildhorn expects the building to be completed by the end of the year.
The fast growth of the project, subsidized by the state with nearly 2.2 million Euro, will continue during the next weeks. Trapezoid sheet metal is implemented into the steel framework; the concrete will be filled in this sheet metal. This way, the building will grow level by level – up to the height of the “Medicus”.

The new building will resemble the "Medicus" in design. The concrete facing (the "second skin") will have the same clinkers as the building above the central bus station. When lanes, ramps and ceilings are finished, they will be coated in a four week-process to resist corrosive salts. “Otherwise, the concrete would have to be refurbished in five to ten years”, explains Schildhorn. He is happy about the progress, which will be even more obvious soon. Up to now only a third of the multi-storey car park, growing on an area of over 3000 m², is visible. If staircase and lift well are finished, the cranes will have shorter ways. Matthias Mühleisen
