Greven * This evening the symbolic ribbon will be cut: The new parking deck at the station is to be opened.

The new parking deck is, after the terminal loop for the bus and the bike parking, a further important part of the new station design. The public local traffic and the infrastructure will be clearly improved with this park & ride deck as well as with the other components.

More commuters have the possibility to leave their cars at the station now – free of charge! These measurements were made possible by development funds from the federal government and the communities.

The work started in December 2000, structure works started in January and the mounting of the steel construction in March. Since the end of August the work is finished, except for some details; only some plants still have be planted

in the greens. This will probably happen by end of October. „We are still within time and cost limits”, says architect Wolfgang Kantorski, who did not only design the new, 3.7 million DM-Parkdeck, but also the multi-storey car park in the city.

The parking deck is a steel construction; the roofing is made of trapezoid sheet metal that has been developed especially for this car park. The rib mesh facing lets light and air into the interior. This reasonably priced solution has an additional advantage: A ventilation system for the parking levels is not required.
The staircases were made of prefabricated concrete parts; the glazing provides transparency and weather protection at the same time. The concrete elements in the stair cases provide colour: Pleasant white-yellow stripes, making the whole thing look like an outsized beach chair.

The roofs are covered with blue sheet metal – the colours from the city logo are repeated here. In the evenings, the entrance areas of the facades are set off by lights. The interior is provided with generous lighting – above average for a car park.

A total of 254 parking spaces are provided in the new multi-storey car park on three levels – the upper level is open, with a great view of Greven. Three parking spaces are for disabled people and thirteen especially for women. The construction allows for an additional storey to be added, if required. * raw

The site was bought by the Deutsche Bahn in August 1999; the old warehouse on the site was pulled down. Three overhead contact line masts along the railway line made planning a difficult task. One mast was repositioned so the deck could be placed between the remaining outer masts. The building is about 130 m long and is about 16 m to the station and 22 m to the Nordwalder Straße.
It is approximately 9 m high in the roof area. The entry and exit by car is in Biederlackstraße, on foot the parking deck can be reached via the staircases next to the entry/exit as well as to the terminal loop.
After the opening of the parking deck the provisional commuter’s parking space at the Mühlenstraße will be finished.
